Esplanade presents: Moonfest- A Mid-Autumn Celebration
Be transported to faraway lands through the hearty songs from sweeping prairies, the exuberant songs of traditional festivies, and the passionate songs of love, as three of the best folk singers from China- Sa Ren Hu of the Mongol people, Su Du A Luo of the Yi people, and Yang Qian Lin of the Hani people- mesmerise you with their exquisite singing.
The programme includes the lyrical yet stately Mongolian folk song Song of Praise, the joyful Yi folk song Return from the Marketplace, and the sentimental The Flowers of Romance. Ding Yi Music Company provides the accompaniment under the baton of Maestro Cao Wen Gong from China.
Moonfest 2015
Apart from performing famous works associated with their respective instruments, Chinese classical music lovers in Singapore are in for a treat as the four virtuosos perform together in an arrangement of the ancient folk tune Three Variations on the Plum Blossom Theme. Additionally, they will be sharing interesting anecdotes about their lives and approaches to their art. The night of dazzling performances will be accompanied by the musicians of Ding Yi Music Company and includes short interviews conducted in Mandarian and English. The concert will be conducted by Dr Tay Teow Kiat.

This year, Ding Yi Music Company will be holding its second Chinese Chamber Music Festival, inviting three new ensembles- Nam Ting Wui Cantonese Music Ensemble from Xing Hai Music Conservatory (Guangzhou), the ensemble from Shanghai Chinese Orchestra and the Music From Chinese ensemble from New York to perform for us. Ding Yi Music Company will also be premiering more newly composed works by local composers. As with the previous festival, there will be workshops, talks, free performances and exhibitions.

Second Singapore International Chinese Chamber Music Composition Competition

Watch as the company goes pop for the first time in collaboration with famed Taiwan singer and actress Tang Na. She notably emerged champion in an internation competition held in Japan by CBS/SONY back in 1988. Accompanied by Ding Yi Music Company, she will sing her own songs Extravagant Request and Hold Me Closer. Tang Na will also bring to you a lineup of nostalgic classics such as Night Jasmine, Lover's Tears and Farewell My Love, rearranged and presented in a brand new perspective by the ensemble.
