Chinese Chamber Music Festival 2017

Following the success of the past two editions in 2013 and 2015, Ding Yi Music Company is proud to present the 3rd Chinese Chamber Music Festival! Organised in conjunction with the Company’s 10th anniversary, this year’s Chinese Chamber Music Festival promises to be a celebratory showcase of the finest and most innovative Chinese music works. Festival highlights include performances by renowned overseas Chinese chamber music practitioners and a special concert featuring Ding Yi’s graduating musicians. This special 10th anniversary concert will be led by Ding Yi’s Principal Guest Conductor, Mr Quek Ling Kiong, and Assistant Conductor, Mr Dedric Wong. As part of the festival, three specially invited overseas chamber ensembles, the Taipei Liuqin Ensemble, the Shanghai Hinmony Chinese Traditional Chamber Ensemble, and the Chengdu Modern Chamber Orchestra, will not only showcase their distinct and interesting arrays of repertoire during the festival, but will also conduct Masterclasses and workshops for Chinese music enthusiasts in Singapore. This festival forms a part of Ding Yi’s efforts, as the leading Chinese chamber music ensemble in Singapore, to promote the appreciation of Chinese chamber music locally.

Musical Frontier

In 2016, Ding Yi Music Company explored cross-cultural collaboration and showcased its very own virtuoso musicians together with the renowned Vietnamese chamber ensemble, Song Hong Chamber Music for one night of magical music making. This year, East meets West as Ding Yi challenges cultural and genre barriers by combining Chinese chamber music and Western woodwinds with the help of The Fantasia Quintet, a Western woodwind quintet  from Finland. This Singaporean-Finnish collaboration is sure to inspire and delight the aural senses!

Songs of the Dragon Kiln

Having fused Sand Art, Javanese Dance, and Chinese music in last year’s sold-out performance of Of Music And Art: The Legend Retold, Sisters’ Islands, Ding Yi Music Company will present a multimedia production to shed light on a forgotten aspect of Singapore culture. Through the use of music, film, and handicraft, Ding Yi will trace the origin and history of dragon kilns in Singapore, reminding audiences of what was once a burgeoning trade.
